Today is a brand new day. The start of a long and promising journey. During the past few weeks, the Lord has been shedding new light into my life. Through discipline and even abandonment, He has weighed upon me my responsibility.
There is a place for God in every aspect of our lives - personal and business. After all without Him you would not have what you have, without Him you would not have these opportunities, without Him you would not be here at all.
As a christian it is my duty to use my opportunities both personal and business to share His Good News and to share how He has changed my life. And I need to take this a little more seriously.
In this opportunity of sharing the Lord has directed me to the subject of greed. Reflecting on Luke 12:13-21. (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%2012:13-21&version=31)
In this parable Jesus speaks of a rich man whose land has given him abundance. The man builds several barns to hold all of his riches. The man decides that he need not do anything else except for drink and be merry. The Lord turns to him and calls him a fool. For now I, the Lord God is going to call you from the earth because of this greedy, selfish act. The Lord declares to him "who now will receive all your riches?"
The Bible is very specific and to the point that we should not store up treasures here on earth for ourselves. (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=47&chapter=6&verse=19&version=31&context=verse)
Give and you shall receive. (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=46&chapter=3&verse=10&version=31&context=verse)
All that we acquire, whether it be a lot or a little, belongs to the Lord and we are asked to give Him back a portion. Think about it. No matter your financial situation there is always someone who is worse off than you (financially, emotionally, physically), or a church or mission in need. You need not go far to give of yourself. (This refers to your time as well as money.)
The Bible also warns us of seeking riches: 1Timothy 6:9 "People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction."
When our hearts are set in the right direction, God is all that is required. (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Phillipians%203;&version=31;)
Do some self observation. Make sure that your opportunities are not in vain. Why are you doing what you are doing? How are you doing it? Is it taking away from your main responsibilities as a spouse, friend, or child...?
I have been attempting to internet market for a few years with little success due to my lack of confidence and the ease with which I would give up. But mainly because I was attempting to do it on my own and not allow God to lead me and guide me.
Recently the Lord has blessed me with some of the programs I have been working. Then my human nature kicked in and I started to go faster, faster than God. I became self-absorbed and neglected my spousal and familial responsibilities.
What happened? Everything came to a standstill. I became angry, frustrated. Thank the Lord Jesus that I heard Him in time. Although I may have done very little lately my heart is once again set towards God and what He wants me to do and what He will allow me to accomplish.
In retrospect when I was going according to His plan and at His pace, I accomplished much more in less time with higher results. Praise God!
Ask yourself this: Is it something I want or something I need? Will it help me to live or is it just greed?
So I ask you again, are you rich? Rich with God?
Have a blessed and prosperous day, everyone!
